The Taipei International Book Exhibition, held in February, welcomed numerous domestic and international publishers and authors. Hong Kong’s Joint Publishing and several of its authors also attended the event. Among them, Hong Kong architecture columnist Simon Hui (Archtraveler) will visit the bookstore to share insights on how architecture transformshuman life through his Arch Touch series.
Hui is a registered architect in Hong Kong and the UK, as well as an architecture columnist. He holds degrees in Architecture from Newcastle University and the University of East London, and an MBA from the University of Manchester, UK. He currently serves as a Senior Project Manager. Since 2008, he has written architectural features under the pen name “Archtraveler,” covering Hong Kong, Taiwan, Beijing, Singapore, and other regions. He has contributed weekly architecture columns to publications including the Hong Kong-based Hong Kong Economic Journal, the London-based UK Chinese Times, and the Beijing-based China Construction News. He has authored several works, including Architecture, Travel, Images, and the Arch Touch series (Volumes I-IX). He is also a co-author of Architecture Born from Writing and Reflections on Architecture. Beyond publishing, his Archtraveler Studio regularly organizes architectural tours and sharing sessions in Hong Kong and overseas, bridging the gap between the public and architecture. This lecture series centers on the Arch Touch series, which comprises seven volumes that delve into architecture across diverse cities, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Beijing, New York, and Singapore. Guided by the author’s professional expertise and engaging insights, attendees will gain fresh perspectives on architecture encountered in daily life or during travels.
2024 Taipei International Book Fair Many foreign publishers and authors came to Taipei to participate in the event. Hong Kong architect Yun Hang, the author of the Architectural Architecture series, allowed Wang Dai Heng to visit Wang Dai Shuxuan in a light-hearted and unprofessional manner, sharing a number of highlights from his travels around the world over the past decade. From the Tower of Shard in London, VIA 57 West in New York, the 21 21 Art Gallery in Tokyo, to Opus Hong Kong, these buildings may not be particularly included in the itinerary when traveling, but with the footsteps and views of “architecture tourists,” readers have more on the buildings they travel through. With a deep feeling, future trips can have different arrangements and experiences. Architect Hsu Yun-heng mentioned that this was actually his first trip to Taiwan alone. He was impressed by the Taipei City Art Museum, designed by the architect, Mr. Wu Pan: it also features a transparent corridor and hidden exhibition rooms inside the museum, which also features transparent hallways and hidden showrooms. Degu's works have the right space to present and bring rhythm to the movement of people in space. The visit is enjoyable and comfortable, leaving a pleasant space experience.
