If you are an avid architecture fan who has been following MVRDV for many years, you should also remember the colorful blocks from the Vertical Village 2011 exhibition, as well as the eye-catching new thinking. Over the past few decades, MVRDV has evolved from what was originally a three-person, founder-centric office into several autonomous regional offices, plus numerous departments established for different orientations (such as Studio 8, Studio Urban, Studio Public, and Studio Next, which is responsible for research and development, etc.) There is a think tank, The Why Factory, which grows in size and day to day, and what remains unchanged is a vibrant atmosphere and a positive attitude towards the future.
If you know this team from the Netherlands due to the completion of the “Kaura Square Tainan Spring” in 2020, you will find that they are constantly cultivating in Taiwan, with the recent addition of the “Tainan New Fruit and Vegetable Market Tainan Market” and the “Light Stone Offshore Wind Power Plant Operation Center in Changhin Industrial Zone Sun Rock” See you soon. In this talk, MVRDV Chief Strategy Officer Jan Knikker and Taiwan Director Liao Hui-Xin will share these designs they implemented in Taiwan and how MVRDV continues to break free and local in the current wave of freedom.
Invited by the Foundation for Cultural Arts, MVRDV, a Dutch architectural team, shared with the Cultural Arts Foundation. Team Strategist Jan Knikker and Taiwan Director Liao Hui-Xin introduced MVRDV's design connections through their design work both internationally and in Taiwan.
These works, which span the world, address different user needs, social issues, materials technology, legal regulations, and more. A variety of levels followed by meticulous team research visits, numerous design discussions, and repeated computational fixes have also given rise to projects such as the Amsterdam complex “Valley” and the Tainan River Plaza “TainanSpring”. In addition, Jan Knikker shared his experience of moving with his family to Poate, France, during the pandemic and renovating an old farmhouse. The process of hand-reconstructing a brick and a one-watt brick gave him a new idea for building, as well as bringing the team to a site where Zen temples were practiced in the area. Design. The experience of this case will also provide additional nutrition for MVRDV to carry out cases in Asia in the future.
At the end of the lecture, Ms. Ye Xiaoyan, Executive Director of the Wenxin Arts Foundation, shared a lot she had learned from her team and announced for the first time a new residential project in collaboration with MVRDV. She believes the building is needed in Taipei, whether it is to add a new touch to the urban landscape or to bring the homes of yesteryear to a more international, more modern development. I hope this work will be an inspiration to bring more “Out of the Box” thoughts to everyone.
