The Collapse of Time and Other Diary Constructions documented in the autumn of 1986 at Bedford Square, London Architectural Union College, in conjunction with the “Afflicted” exhibition, which was co-created by the school student to create a temporary memorial building designed by Black Duck — The Collapse of Time, as well as a publication of the AA School of Architecture's “Text” series Second series. The collection was presented to the bookstore by Nicholas Boyarsky, son of former AA Dean Alvin Boyarsky, who led the exhibition “Friendship of Architecture and Books” in 2020, with a commemorative title.
The Collapse of Time and Other Diary Constructions a book about John Hejduk, the protagonist of this “Housing the Friendship: The Friendship of Architecture and Books,” derived from the stereoscopic work created in 1986 by Before Square, also led by his friend Alvin Boyarsky, an architect, educator, and publisher.
The device uses a “non-monumental declaration” -- declaring that the focus of attention on architecture is “now,” and every second that passes time is past and becomes history. For example, if the current time is 12 o'clock, the number 12 will be covered in black — so 12 is already in the air and is not on this monument. And the second part of the book is about Hejduk's private diary and the creative concept of this work: including creative artwork and related photographic research. Throughout his life, Hejduk explored the interconnectedness of people and space in the form of architecture and art.
During the 2020 edition of Housing the Friendship Architecture and the Friendship of Books by the Foundation for the Arts, the Curators announced that Nicholas Boyarsky, son of Alvin Boyarsky, will host a special book exhibition in Taiwan starring his father and John Hejduk. After Nicholas Boyarsky became aware of the news, an out-of-print book is available The Collapse of Time And sign it in person at the door of the book. This book not only completes the special exhibition “Housing the Friendship: The Friendship of Architecture and Books”, but also symbolizes that the friendship between architecture and books continues in other forms in different time spaces.
