Written by the renowned Japanese architect Ryue Nishizawa, the foreword conveys the continuing influence of Shinohara on the ongoing development of architecture in Japan and around the world. With a large page, readers can get an overview of redrawn floor plans in the same proportion as the original design, personal sketches never published publicly, and valuable photographic records left at the time. The article also includes an article written by David B. Stewart, a former colleague of Shinohara's who taught at Tokyo University of Technology:Fashioning Change: Three Iconic Japanese Houses, as well as interviews with Shin-ichi Okuyama, a Japanese architect who also served as a teacher at the Togoku University, reveal the location of these three residences in Shinohara's career architecture and provide a new perspective on their unique design approach.
